During the meeting, Mr Dr. Jose C.B told Mr. Zhang that the Tanzania Cotton Board, a government organization is responsible for the regulation and promotion of the cotton industry in Tanzania. Cotton is one of the major exporting products in the country. The Tanzania government wants to export more cotton to China so as to obtain more foreign currency. In the past years cotton trade between Tanzania and China has been transacted through international cotton merchants and there is no direct link between Tanzania and Chinese businessmen up to the present. It is urgent to establish the direct trade relationship in the coming year, which is the main purpose of the business trip in China.
Mr.Jose stressed that they export 80% domestic cotton because there are few cotton textile manufactures in Tanzania. In order to promote cotton industry and export, the government has established a cotton developing fund to help farmers, promote cotton export and organize activities involved in cotton business.
He sincerely hope that China could import more cotton from his country next year since China is the largest cotton importer in the world. He warmly welcome Mr. Zhang to organize a Chinese cotton trade delegation to visit Tanzania and he would like to support the delegates during their staying in his country.
